What is Am I Nima?
Am I Nima is a psychological-horror narrative puzzle game developed by HO! Games and funded in part by Outersloth. You play as Nima, a girl who wakes up in a basement with fragmented memories. Her mother says she is not acting like herself and begins a series of tests to determine whether she really is her daughter.
The central mechanic is not combat or item crafting, although it borrows the grammar of both. Nima collects words from objects and conversations. Inside her mind, the player combines those words into new thoughts. Those thoughts can then be dragged into dialogue, changing how the conversation — and the test — unfolds.
Official description: “You don’t remember who you are. Act like her. Talk like her.”That line does a lot of work. The game is less about solving a locked-room mystery than about performing a relationship you cannot remember.

Story setup
Nima wakes underground. She is tied to a chair. Boxes of trinkets fill the room. A woman who calls herself Nima’s mother stands across from her and seems unsure whether to come closer. The first thing Nima has to do is decide how to address her.
Mom says there was an accident. She says Nima was swimming, hit her head and nearly drowned. The player is given reasons to doubt the neat version of that story, including a brief flash of Mom holding something sharp. The demo is careful not to settle whether this is a lie, a memory, or both.
Nima’s bedroom supplies another layer: swimming trophies, paleontology books, a worn shark plush, a pet fish, and a locked locker. The objects do not merely unlock lore. They give her the words she needs to participate in Mom’s next test.

How it plays
The game alternates between exploration and conversation. Exploration is a point-and-click slideshow: click an object, get a thought. Conversation is the pressure test. Mom asks a question, and you must choose which thought to speak.
Explore
Click through basement rooms, Nima’s bedroom, the bathroom and other spaces. Objects can hand you new words and memories that change what you are able to say.
Combine
Drag one word onto another inside Nima’s mind. Some pairs create a single concept; others, like Nima + Mom in the demo, can produce several at once.
Speak
Move a word from the mind to Nima’s dialogue. Mom reacts differently depending on what you choose, so the same test can steer the conversation toward comfort, suspicion or confrontation.
Endure the test
Mom evaluates your answer. The full game has more than 15 main tests across five chapters and 13 endings; the demo shows the shape of that pressure without spoiling the full story.
Some combinations unlock more than one word. The opening pair Nima + Strangerproduces Mom, but Mom + Nima produces Family, Fear and Love in the demo. Do not assume every recipe has a single output.
The word web is the game’s main expressive system. It is also where the story does some of its quietest characterisation. A combination like Love + Dad = Wateris not just a puzzle solution; it implies an association Nima may not be able to say out loud. Our Word Fusion Lab collects only combinations we could trace to demo footage or a hands-on preview.
Confirmed content scale
The September 5, 2026 developer update is the best current source for the full game’s scope. HO! Games says the finished game will contain:
- Five chapters and more than 15 main tests;
- Seven additional tests that require extra digging;
- Five environments and more than 300 inspectable objects;
- More than 230 unique words and more than 5,000 ways to combine them;
- Over 150 main dialogue choices and over 600 optional dialogue choices;
- Thirteen endings.
The demo represented Chapter 1 and roughly half of Chapter 2. That makes it a meaningful preview, but not a reliable estimate of full-game length. No official playtime has been published. We will not invent one.
Look and feel
Am I Nima pairs a visible, hand-drawn conversation view with slide-like exploration scenes. The palette is dominated by hot orange, acid green, deep red and near-black, with thick ink outlines. The brain sits at the right of the screen as a literal visual field of words. The word library runs down the left.
The developers cite their own cultural and personal experiences as part of the story’s identity. The game’s horror is domestic rather than cosmic: a parent, a kitchen, a bathroom, a bedroom, and the feeling of being studied by someone who claims to love you.

Release and platforms
Am I Nima is scheduled for November 27, 2026. The game was originally announced for October 8, 2026 during the Story-Rich Showcase, then moved in September. The current Steam page marks Windows as the supported platform.
A Mac demo build was added in March 2025 and a June 2026 press listing mentioned Windows and Mac, but the full-game Steam page does not currently flag macOS. Until that changes, we describe the PC release as confirmed and Mac as uncertain. See therelease date page for the full timeline andsystem requirements for specs.
Content advisory
HO! Games’ official mature-content description is specific. The game containsimplied depictions of violence towards a child, eye mutilation and child neglect, and imagery of bugs, spiders and worms. The Steam rating descriptors also mention sensitive themes and strong language in some regions.
The game’s horror is not only gore. The demo builds unease through confinement, interrogation, unreliable care and the fear that a parent knows more than she admits. Readers looking for a gentle family drama should take the warning seriously.
Our beginner’s guide explains the mechanics without walking through the worst images. The demo walkthroughcontains scene-level spoilers and is labelled as such.
Development and recognition
HO! Games is a Vancouver-based studio founded in 2024 by brothers Jeremy and Alvin Ho. The official site describes the team’s goal as combining unusual gameplay with stories that reflect their personal experiences and cultural identity. The developer overview trailer credits Jeremy Ho as creative director and artist, Alvin Ho as lead programmer and Allison Ho as 3D artist.
The public demo launched on February 23, 2025. It received a Mac build days later and several small patches. By September 2025 the studio announced Outersloth funding and 84,000 wishlists; by December it had passed 100,000; by June 2026 its press release reported more than 120,000. These are wishlist figures and review counts, not sales.
The official site lists an IndieCade 2025 official selection, a WINGS at SXSW 2025 finalist badge and a BitSummit award nomination. HO! Games also reported a Vermillion Gate Award nomination at BitSummit 2026. We list these as distinctions, not review scores.
What is still unknown
- The exact Steam unlock time on November 27, 2026 has not been announced.
- The price and any launch discount are unknown.
- Full-game Mac support has not been re-confirmed; the current Steam page only marks Windows as a supported platform.
- No full-game review scores exist because the game is unreleased.
- HO! Games has confirmed 13 endings but has not published their names or unlock conditions.
- Game length, save-slot details and controller support have not been formally documented.
- The exact nature of the second voice in Nima’s head is a story question, not a confirmed lore fact.
The full game is unreleased, so there is no legitimate Metacritic, OpenCritic or Steam review score for it. The demo’s review summary is positive, but a demo is not a review of the finished game. Any site presenting a full-game score before November 27, 2026 is either using an early code or inventing one.
